What's Your Favorite Movie?
For a very long time, if ever a psychotic stranger were to call me demanding to know my favorite movie, scary or otherwise, I would've been in a lot of trouble.

Because for the longest time, I didn't know what my favorite movie was. It was something I just couldn't figure out. Partly because I'm indecisive and partly because there are just too many good movies to choose from.
It was difficult for me to be objective on the subject. My love of movies made my decision feel impossible. I needed a more logical way. Some data-based approach.
Enter Flickchart

You're given two movies and you pick one over the other. Super simple setup.
If you're presented with movies you haven't seen, you can easily refresh them until it gives you two films to compete for your undying love. And after you keep doing this addictive bit of back-and-forth clicking, Flickchart creates a list based on all your choices. You get a personal top 100, top 10, and ultimately your number one favorite movie.
Now, it does take some time to accurately represent your cinematic tastebuds. For a bit too long, War of the Worlds (2005) was listed as my favorite film. I enjoy this movie, sure, but I don’t think I’d ever say it was my favorite. But as you continue with the clicks, Flickchart corrects the list.
And every time you click "Haven't Seen It," it adds that movie to your Best Movies You Haven't Seen List. You can check that out to see what you're missing out on. You can also see the worst ones.
Finding My Favorite Film
After a few thousand clicks, The Silence of the Lambs reached the number one spot.

And despite thousands of clicks more, it has stayed at that top spot. And that was surprising to me. I had never considered it to be my favorite movie before. I felt like it wasn’t even on the radar with the countless other movies out there. But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
It’s a brilliantly crafted film that oozes talent in every aspect, and it’s a master class in direction, writing, acting, cinematography, and editing.

This is my favorite cut ever.

It’s such a hypnotic watch, and it has tremendous rewatchability. Personally, I hold a lot of stock in rewatchability. Not only is it entertaining, it's a film that can be analysed and studied.
What I found so interesting is that I don’t think I’d consider any of the individual participants as my favorite anything, but when all of these individuals and departments worked together, they ended up creating my favorite movie. A greater than the sum of its parts sort of thing.
Not Just Lists
Not only does Flickchart allow you to rank movies, it's also a community where you can connect with other movie lovers. You can check out various charts and discussions. There's also an extensive blog section.
